Which Mobility Scooter Is Best For Me

The first thing to consider when looking into  mobility scooters would be to understand what it is you are looking to accomplish.

What is the purpose of the scooter?

Is it to help you navigate through your home or is it to run to the grocery store? The point is to consider your needs.

How often will it be used?

Some folks are capable of completely eliminating their automobile and utilize the mobility scooter in all facets of their lives. If this is your goal then a Larger scooter is probably the direction you should continue. (Consider the space available in your home)

If personal mobility in your home is a priority you may consider a power wheelchair. Power wheelchairs are extremely agile and capable of “spinning or rotating”  in confined spaces. They are also built solid enough to take or use outdoors.

Both mobility scooters and power wheelchairs can be loaded onto power lifts. These lifts mount to the back of your vehicle to a class three hitch. The hitches are available at any u-haul shop. They have a large selection and can install that day. Most mid size and up vehicles can support a lift.  Not all!

Lightweight scooters are designed to be quickly and easily disassembled and placed into the trunk. They are all approximately 100 lbs in total weight give or take. As they are considered light weight you must still consider the amount of effort and personal agility to take one apart. The batteries will be the heaviest portion at about 35 lbs. You must be able to bend and lift comfortably or consider a larger scooter with a power lift.

REMEMBER:

1. What is the purpose?

2. Consider your needs!

3. Power Wheelchairs and Mobility Scooters can be loaded onto lifts.

4. Lightweight still requires effort to disassemble.
